My 2014 Book List

January 1, 2015

books

15 years ago, a good friend convinced me to start writing “reviews” of every book I read. At the end of the year, we’d share our lists. It has become one of my favorite year-end traditions.

You can view and download my Complete 2014 Book List here.

I also post reviews throughout the year on this blog.

The list can be a bit excessive, so here’s a short version. Just my favorites, with links to the reviews:

Non-Fiction

One Summer: America, 1927 by Bill Bryson

Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson by S.C. Gwynne

Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War by Robert Gates

In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick

Fiction

Tinkers by Paul Harding

Orfeo by Richard Powers

Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey

A Good Man Is Hard To Find and Other Stories by Flannery O’Connor

What did you read this year? What did you love?
