There Are Two Errors in the the Title Of This Book: A Sourcebook of Philosophical Puzzles, Paradoxes and Problems by Robert M. Martin

July 7, 2011

I was hoping for a book focused on brainteasers and, as the subtitle suggests, philosophical puzzles and logical paradoxes. It has some of that, but it also has a survey of anything loosely related to philosophy, from an overview of classic philosophers to an inquiry into morality.  I found the randomness of the subject matter distracting and the treatment of much of it to be superficial. The overall tone of the book is silly and sometimes corny. The good stuff is fun brain candy, but you have to pick through a lot of brain asparagus to get to it.
